Boy, 17, Caught With Loaded Gun, Narcotics In Hudson Valley

A 17-year-old was apprehended in Dutchess County after police said he was found with a loaded handgun and narcotics during an investigation into drug activity.

The arrest took place just before noon on Saturday, March 1, when officers saw the teen with the firearm near Rose Street, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. 

When officers went up to the boy, they recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun and an undisclosed quantity of narcotics, authorities said.

The teen was taken to the Juvenile Aid Bureau, where he was charged with two felonies:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon;
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was processed and held pending arraignment.
